Preselling for profit
If you want to, you must presell.
Before we start, let’s talk about what preselling actually is. Preselling is both an art and a science. The goal is to get your reader prepped to make a purchase. Then sending them to the product sales page to make the purchase. When done correctly, your reader will not even notice.
The gist is that you give your reader some useful information. Then send them to the sales page. In just a minute, I’ll explain exactly how to presell. First, it’s important to understand why we do it. Here are a few benefits of preselling:
- It builds trust – Once you have your readers’ trust, they will click your links more readily. And the more traffic you can send to the sale page, the more commissions you’ll earn.
- Preselling is disarming – When you’re not hyping or pitching a product, your reader lets their guard down. This means they are more open to what you’re saying. So your content get absorbed.
- It preps them to buy – Your readers are now receiving your message. And in turn, they’re open to other messages, as well. For example, the sales message on the page you’re linking to. Sending them to the sales page in this state makes them more receptive to the actual pitch.
- You make more money – Now your reader arrives at the sales page in a buying mood. Open to the sales message and feeling safe. This dramatically boosts your sales rate!
- Your customers are happier – People like to make their own buying decisions. Versus being pitched or convinced. And this makes them feel better about the product they purchased.
- Your profits go up – Happy customers ask for refunds much less often. Less refunds means more affiliate money stays in your pocket.
Clearly preselling makes sense. You increase your profits. Your customers are happier. Everybody wins!
How does it work?
OK, now you understand why it’s so important. So, hopefully you’ve decided to start preselling. So, let’s talk about how to make it work. As I mentioned earlier, it’s both an art and a science.
Part 1 – The art of it
First, you have to gain the trust of your reader, so they let their guard down. Honestly, the only way to do this is to provide real value in you content. But you can’t give them so much that they think they have everything they could need, and that’s what makes it an art. That is, they have to be wanting more when you refer them to the product sales page for the product you’re trying to sell. And since they’re more open, they are more likely to make a purchase.
It’s also a science
There’s also a specific formula you need to follow.
The first is how you present the information. You’ve got to map out your strategy before you start writing. Your goal is to sell the product you’re promoting. There are two ways to accomplish this with great content. First, you can provide useful but incomplete information. The other method is to explain all the details and expose how difficult it is to do what you’re explaining. Whichever method, you send them to a product website that solves the problem you just created.
But you can’t link to your affiliate link. You have directly to the home page of the product. That’s because nobody likes to click on affiliate links. But, without your affiliate link, how do you get credit? There’s a trick to make this work… You use an image tag to cookie your reader before they leave your site.
Next, you want to make sure you’re linking on related words and phrases. People are used to clicking on hyperlinked words to get information they’re looking for. And if the words you hyperlink relate, your reader will naturally click them for more information.
What you have now is a super powerful system for affiliate marketing success.
Now for the bad news…
It’s extremely difficult to do this correctly. Let’s talk about everything required to put this plan into action: Good content. First of all, you actually have to write great articles and give value to your readers. Which means you need to be both knowledgable on the subject and capable of writing a high-quality article. Preselling skills. Yes, you must providing useful content. You also have to present the info in a way that provides real value. While at the same time making them want more. Or make the information so overwhelming they realize they can’t do it on their own.
Choosing your products. After that you have to figure out which products you want to promote. If you can manage to get the article written well. All your efforts are wasted if you send your reader to the wrong sales letter.
Techy stuff. One of the keys to this system is using “covert cookies” for the tracking. This is pretty easy – you just make a 1 pixel X 1 pixel image with no border and make the “source” of the image your affiliate link. (Just don’t mess it up. Otherwise, you won’t get credit for your sales.)
Wrapping it up:
Now you know exactly how to presell effectively. Preselling properly will boost your affiliate profits up to 500%! So, start now and develop preselling content for all your affiliate promotions. Please don’t be lazy. The effort it takes is well worth the benefits…
